Complete novice of gardening, could anyone help/advise?

We moved house 2 years ago and this year i have planted a small tree and some flower seeds and a hanging basket YAAAAAAY im very pleased with myself can you tell

BUT now i want to grow veg.

ive bought a potato kit today and will be putting that on my patio, i was looking through the garden centre and i fancy growing cabbage,tomatos,cucumber,peppers,onions and mushrooms, - am i too late now to start doing that, and also can anyone recommend a really easy beginners gardening book for me to buy.

hi, i am no expert at gardening at all but i have just planted some onions and pea plants (a couple of weeks ago)in pots as i only have a yard and they haven't died yet. Homebase has a very basic booklet/leaflet with a chart in the middle explaining when you can plant seeds/plants and when they should be harvested and its free
