Secateurs

My secateurs broke this morning. They didn't owe me anything, I had them for about twenty years. Now I need to buy another pair and find the choice very difficult. Could somebody have a look for me here and tell me what they would buy. I don't mind spending a bit of money on them if they are going to last me another twenty years (probably longer than I will )

Anything from Felco gets my vote. Fantastic quality, all parts available as spares and a really good servicing department who will sort them out and return them as new.

My DH is a professional gardener and has had his for over 20 years. Quite impressive I thought for something used over and over again every day!

I agree with the Felco's, they do different types too including left handed ones. You can even send them away to be serviced!

I've had a pair of Felco No2 (Original) secs for almost 20 years and they're still going - just need resharpening every now and again. Best thing in my garden tool box.

More votes for felco here. I have a pair of no5's that have done me for years, and they get a lot of use.
Having said all that, I'd also recommend anyone who has secatuers to get the swiss army sharpener from lakeland - it's just rejuvenated every blade in my house (well alost).

Agree that Felco are the gold standard, but CK ratchet secateurs are cheap and very effective (perhaps as a second pair).

I bought the no5's because the blades are narrower and easier to get into the bottom of raspberry canes. would equally apply to roses.
