What is this please?

And yes, I know it's a tree.

We inherited it when we bought our house four years ago and has in that time doubled in size - it's now about seven foot high.

We kind-of (depending on my mood) like it but I need to know it's name please.

Many thanks.

I'm not very good with gardening etc, but it looks like some kind of Fir Tree.

Is it this?

Is it some kind of Leylandii? If so, they're ugly and horrible and will grow uncontrollably, take over your garden (and everyone else's) and cost you loads to have it cut back every year or two. Vile things.

If however, it is the thing Uriel has linked to, it's very pretty.

Just need to figure out how to halve the height of it without killing it or maiming it for life and all will be well.
