What shrub/tree to plant in a north facing garden - any advice?

I would like to plant a shrub or small tree in my front garden. It is north facing and, as we live on a main road, quite exposed (though not in shade). Ideally I'd like an evergreen that also produces flowers and/or berries at some time of the year. It would be to grow in the centre of the garden, not against a wall. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

You could try the Strawberry tree (fruits are not edible):

but it does need full sun so this might not be an option.
Evergreen shrubs which flower or have berries: viburnum tinus, choisya ternata and aztec pearl, holly, mahonia, some euphorbia.
Look on teh Crocus site I linked to above and you can filter the search for shrubs/evergreen/shady etc.
