How do I get rid of the piss scorch marks that my dogs leave on the lawn?

Help please! We had a new lawn laid in the autumn, it's since been wrecked by brown scorch marks left by my dogs.

Is there anything that I can do to prevent these (apart from fencing the lawn off)? What can I do to fix the problem - can I re-seed the lawn by just sprinkling it with grass seed ?

I need a quick fix as we're due to market our house in a couple of weeks time. Thank you!

Not that I know for sure but I guess the grass hasn't grown much and needed mowing since autumn. Keep your dogs off it to avoid the problem. Once it starts growing and needs mowing I suppose the brown will go so long as the dogs don't wee on it!

If this takes too long you could always try something I saw in California. As it is so dry some people there spray their grass with green spray paint to make it green. A bit radical I know - but it would certainly make it green and if you are moving anyway - who cares?

Dig out the turf, flush with water and re-seed.

Obv, more piss will kill the grass again...

I think if you can catch it just post wee, you can spray it with copious amounts of water and it might not die.

Is there another spot in the garden you can get the dog to wee on? A place covered in bark chippings or something.

I take it its a female dog? You can buy things that stop this happening.
I have seen in 'Pets at Home' some kind of green "rock" (it isnt an actuall rock!) that you put in the dogs water bowl, and it gradually dissolves. So when the dog drinks the water, this "rock" goes through their system, and is meant to stop the scorching.
Here we are.

this in their water will save future lawns

Although on yahoo answers others suggest putting tomatoe ketchup in your dogs meals as the tomatoes lower ph of the urine.

It isnt just females that burn the lawn. My dog's wee does too and this is also on a new lawn. I will give the water stuff a go as I can't train him to pee in a particular (non lawn) place. He wasn't at the front of the line when brains were being given out.

My male dog burns the lawn too - he doesn't cock his leg.

We had a bitch who was sadly put down last August. When she went, there were marks on the lawn and they stayed as a reminder of her until only a few weeks ago.

I've bought some of the dog rocks, so I'll report back as to whether they've worked or not. Thanks everyone
