Can you plant plants - with roots - on top of bulbs? anyone?

What sort of plants? With roots doesn't give us a lot to go on

Bedding plants would be fine. You could probably put perennials in as well, since they die back after they have flowered.

I wouldn't do it with shrubs; bulbs would be OK around the base of the shrub, at least to start with, but wouldn't be any good planted directly underneath as the shrub gets too big for the bulbs to come through properly. Even if they came up, you wouldn't see them properly. You might also find that the bulbs would eventually not grow anymore because certain shrubs are very greedy and take all the nutrients from the soil.

But it would really depend on what the bulbs are, and what you're planning on shoving in.

well, I have daffs of course, and just shoving some blue bells in this year too. Last year I planted heaps of bulbs, like lillies and grief...cant think. DS is screaming upstairs in the bath, best go, back shortly.
