i have lots of starwberry plants in pots still being rather prolific. they are in the unheated greenhouse, but the fruits dont seem to ripen much...

would they ripen if i brought them indoors, do you think?
the whole plant/s or just the unripe fruits.

or, more simply, how do i ripen strwberries please? [dunce]

in December? Blimey. Strawberries need warmth and sunshine to ripen. they might ripen if you bring them indoors, you never know, but you'll need to make sure they don't dry out.

They need heat - 20 degrees in the day and about 10 degrees at night.

ooh! answers! god the gardening threads are sparse arent they?

so is it definately heat thats needed, you think? or would it work if i got a hydroponic light or something? dp seems to think that might work (hes neevr grown a thing in his life tho, so not much use tbh. for this i mean)

Depending on variety they are fruit for a short time between beg June and August usually. You can force them on in the greenhouse but you will need heat as suggested above. They need to flower first and the as the flowers fall off the fruit will reveal and grow. I actually think that its sun rather than heat they need as they need lots of light.
