When can I expect conkers/chestnuts and acorns to start falling so we can get a good collection this year?

As we're in September my thoughts are turning to autumn.....any ideas when conkers and acorns fall off the trees? Plus any tips on collection most welcome!

collection tips are called fingers!
Sorry, can't think of a better way to collect than by hand.
Usually start falling early October but with this years low light levels, it might be a bit earlier.
Don't know about chestnut trees but oaks do not produce acorns every year so you might need to try a few trees.
Why do you want to collect? Are you a squirrel?

They are already falling around our way. DD and I went for a walk this morning and she picked up loads. They were very small though. I don't know if that's because they have fallen early or if they will all be like that because of the weather.
