Calling anyone with a walnut tree...

I have one - a big one. Last year we moved into our house (with said tree) in August and to be honest was so busy that I didn't really notice what was happening with the tree. It however yielded about 7000 walnuts.

However, this year I've notice that the leaves and walnut pods seem to have a lot of black spots on them. We've had loads of wind and rain and I thought maybe they were just a bit weather damaged but am now wondering whether all is not well. There don't seem to be nearly as many nuts on the tree this year (although lots have blown off in the wind).

So any walnut tree afficionados - is it normal for them to get these black spots, is it just weather damage or something more sinister?

Thanks for help in advance

Don't know about the black spots

Do know that Walnut trees fruit best after you cut them back a bit - was it pruned before you moved in?

I don't know. It is so big it's hard to reach the branches!

If it had been pruned it would have had to have been done professinally as it's big

Mine is taller than the house

Well Moondog, if my tree has as many nuts as it did last year, I'll send you some! I'm only now working my way through the last bag - and I've given away loads. But me thinks my poor tree is ailing.
