*****Plants for the house?******

I would like to buy some plants for the house, I'm not green fingered, hence the thread, any ideas?

get an orchid - they're gorgeous, and mine thrives on neglect! Seriously, it only needs to be watered about once a week

i have 8 in the living room! yuccas are nice and easy to keep, peace lillies are pretty too

Thanks ladies, I'm basially redecorating and realised the house would be lovely with some plants, thanks for the ideas.

Ferns are pretty and fairly low maintenance. Spider plants are very hard to kill and are interesting when thet grow babies.
Jade plant (cassandra, sp?) is also easy and lovely.

Easter cacti are extremely resilient too, and they get lovely pink or red flowers at some point usually around easter (only my mum's flowers in February!)

Ooh so many choices! Thanks again (that's some name btw)Roskvawantingsomesunshine, now sorry if this is a prize dumb question but, which plants out of those mentioned are best suited where in the house or does it matter? I really don't have a clue about plants. Also my daughter seems to think, plants will attract flys and crawlies, surely that's not true?

The only thing I had that attracted flies was a parsley plant, but that got eaten anyway!

Orchids don't like direct sunlight or drafts, and the easter cactus doesn't seem to care.

Well there you go then, Roskva will be my pride and joy, although I'd guess friends etc will think I've lost the plot when I say "So do you like Roskva?" then again, they know I'm a bit barmy anyway. lol

If it's any consolation, my friends know that I am barmy, and I lost the plot ages ago (or at least, sometime late in pregnancy ie last summer )

Oh believe me Roskva, it was, is still nutty at times but it's all good mostly, though it can be funny to watch when she reverts to being childish and he's grumping about like an old man, I swear sometimes I think he was here before, he'll say stuff like "years ago when I was a kid" Aw 7 mths, ooh I bet she's a litle beauty.

Oh God I better stop, I'm getting broody! Is she in a good routine for you? God if you handed me a 7 mth old now, I'd have a panick attack, I've forgotten everything! lol

Ps, you will have to forgive me of my overuse of God in the last post, I'm not overly relgious, am a bit of a lapsed Catholic but I am Irish and we do tend to say God a lot!

Mother in law tongue - nice shape and easy to look after. They like being pot bound.

Money plant - mine seems to thrive and easy to look after. Had to prune it back last year as was getting to droopy and heavy. Now looking great again (they are the ones you see in Chinese take aways)

Thanks Cece, wow, theres so much to choose from and I feel a bit smug now knowing about a few other plants, seriously I've only ever had a hanging basket because I'm so rubbish at plants and gardening! but at least now when I next visit my garden centre (we have a beautiful one just down the road) I can walk in with a bit of confidence, instead of my usual annual visit for a Christmas tree!

Hi Mhamai, yes dd is a little sweety, she's becoming quite a cheeky little monkey now. We're off to baby massage in a minute, which involves me trying to anchor her to the floor and massage her one handed, while she tries to crawl off to play with the other babies!

When are you going plant shopping? I think I might have to as well - my kitchen looks bare now I've thrown out the dead poinsetta...
