Artichoke advice

I have just bought 4 small artichoke plants. Can I plant them now or should I wait till spring? If I should wait will the plants be ok outside? They are to go in a school garden not mine so I want to give them the best chance
TIA

I'm in north east England and I planted mine this time five years ago. They have grown to be a rampant massive plant which I have divided and replanted so I would put it in and scatter a layer of mulch over

Thank you Gatekeeper, that's reassuring to know

I'm in the SE and it's quite a sheltered spot so hopefully they'll be fine then 🙂

If you do put them in, I'd give them a bit of a mulch around the crown just for a bit of additional protection in case we have a really rough winter.

They are ever so tough once they get going!

They are as tough as old boots it would seem.
I am in Yorkshire - I dug out some , gave them away and had 2 sad little rooted things left , so planted them in my garden . They have flowered, and looking good after about 5 months. :)
