Present ideas for a BiL with an allotment please!

Suggestions please for a birthday present (£40-£50) for a BiL with an allotment. This is his first year having an allotment, it is a big one and he is growing vegetables. He is an architect and likes quirky, designer type things.

Ideally, I would love to be able order something on line and have it delivered.

Well, I don't know if they are quirky, but as someone with a big allotment, its good tools that matter, eg a good hoe, wheelbarrow with blow up tyre or a 3 prong harrow. If it looks like a lifetime addiction- then maybe Wolf multi change tools - you buy a handle, and buy the bits to put on it :)

Hey, if you wait a minute, Shove will be along talking about a bokashi bin...

It's my 1st year with an allotment, and apart from a bokashi bin, I want an azada/digging hoe type thing. And also All The Seeds, and some structural type things like cloches and frames. Not sure that any of it is particularly design-led however.

OP, I am noted on this forum for a tendency to bore everyone to tears sing hymns of praise to bokashi bins. So Zebra is just teasing me about it!

They ARE really, really, really, really good though.

Though perhaps not the kind of thing you could wrap up with a pretty bow...

I'm struggling to think of quirky designery garden things. I can think of classics - eg Felco secateurs, Haws watering cans etc but not quirky.

Oooh, an idea! Eva Solo has a garden range, including a rather nice contemporary bird bath, outdoor torches, planters, bird feeders. Like a lot of Danish design, they are ££££ - so it would be a generous present!

I think these are rather beautiful - I got one for a friend: insulated lunchboxes so you can take a warm meal to the allotment! (Or a cold one, if it's baking hot outside.)

The thing if equipment is too nice people won't leave it at the allotment for fear of it being broken into and knocked. I only leave old tools up there. Garden vouchers arey favourite

A herb or vegetable seed subscription
A really long hose with one of those things you wind them up on
A compost bin of some sort

Netted vegetable tunnels and cages are really quite expensive and he will discover he needs one pretty quickly. gardening-naturally.com has reasonably priced ones.
