Have decided to plant something (not sure what yet) in planters and sit them on our limestone paving in the patio. What do people do? Do they sit them directly on top or will this mark the stone?

it is best to use pot feet or pot stands on wheels, both available at garden centres. prices vary.

Thanks. Haven't had a patio before so not sure of ins and outs of things.

Is any particular material better for planters? Iron? plastic? (don't want clay, too thick)

iron gets very hot, so you would need to choose plants that can cope with getting hot roots.

I rather like fibreclay, have a google and you will see loads of colours and shapes. It is thinner than clay, light and weatherproof.

Im hsppy to use pkastic pots.

But I do have a slate pig trough which I found in our field, its very old and bespoke. Plus 2 Butler sinks I bought for £40 yesterday. Love them! I have an old cottage and they look right at home there. On the prowl for another 2.
