Low maintence ground cover (grass alternative)?

Hi all

We have an awkward long strip of grass at the edge of our back drive with 2 raised veg beds. I want to neaten it by adding a walk round gravel path to the veg beds & remove the grass & add a couple of plants &/or some low ground cover that doesn't get out of hand, (not lady's mantel), to the to half of it - it's on a bit of a slope . It gets sun on one side but big leylandi on other side.

Can anyone rec any easy to get hold of & not too expensive options please? Would heuchera work?

If you get heuchera, I'd get ones that want sun / partial sun - the pale ones will scorch in the sun. Would herbs work? Mint / coriander / chervil on the shady bit and thyme / oregano / sage / chives on the sunny bit. Bees love them and you can cook with them.

Hmm, hadn't thought about herbs-I suppose clumping ones like chives would work. Really don't want anything that will spread too much but have year round interest if possible.
