Any shed-buying tips or recommendations please?

I am determined to finally get the shed I have been promised since September!

I think we can just about fit a 6x4, would like windows on one side (it will have house walls on 2 sides) and preferably wood. It doesn't need to be especially pretty as will be round the side of the house, but preferably not really ugly. It will be mostly for storage of tools, pots etc, maybe a little potting bench if I can fit one in, but not for spending much time in.

Ideally a balance between quality (would like it to last as long as possible with minimum maintenance) and not being TOO expensive.

I have not got much idea where to look though, so please does anyone have tips on what to look for, or recommendations of good brands?

Thank you!

We currently have a 7x5, in a corner, with pent roof & windows on the low side (usually they're other way round but we used to hang bikes on the high side when we had 6 of them. This is not recommended though - poor shed is now very misshapen)

Anyway planning to replace it with a 6x6 corner shed at some point. Should be much easier to access all the corners.

This image is a 7x7 - I think the 6' one may have only one door

Would you have space for one of these?

Oh, & our pent shed has the door in the end, not the side - easier to get bikes in that way but not an issue for you? They normally go next to the window.

Apex roof look prettier but I don't know what the head height is like inside. Tiger do get good reviews so worth considering.

Also you can paint it one of these beautiful colours & that will weatherproof it for years- it's good stuff Smile

Thanks TheOne!

Unfortunately I don't think we can go any bigger than 6x4 - it is to fit in a corner of the extension, but not right into the corner as there is a drain which I think we will need to keep clear, so a corner one wouldn't work (not seen those before, they do look good if you had the space for it though!). Also it can't come too far out or it won't be possible to get past - it is in the side alley, so we need to keep a clear passageway from the gate down the side of the house. Even 6x4 will only JUST fit I think!

I am thinking it will need to go with the long side to the front, and can either have the door in the long side and a window in the short end, or the door in the short end and (more) windows down the long side. Then the other long side would be against the wall, and the other short side close to the other wall but leaving the drain clear in case we need to access it (if it gets blocked or anything).

Interesting you recommended Tiger sheds as I've heard them mentioned elsewhere too so will definitely take a look. The paints look good too, I hadn't really thought of painting it but actually that might be nice!

I don't know if you can customise door/window position with big producers. Ours came from a local company who were able to do it - worth asking though, if you want something not standard. (Tiger probably more use for this than eg B&Q. Their 'Flex Apex' says 'crafted by us, configured by you')

Window in long side is nicest I think.

Good luck anyway. Sheds are fab, & really useful for storing Stuff Smile

It is going to be MY shed, and is going to be TIDY Grin With hooks and things, and PROPER PLACES for everything, and a big lock on the door to stop untidy people getting in!

Unlike the rest of our house/garage/cars/garden

I got mine from ebay. It was about a third less than buying from anywhere else, even though mine was pressure-treated timber (worth going for) and others were not. The price included fitting too.
