Can I do it now or do I need to wait a bit?

Advice varies. My advice is do it - you're planting them deep enough for it not to matter if we get a frost before the foliage comes up. If there's going to be a frost later on it may nip the tops but won't kill them and a bit of fleece will give them the protection they need. If the ground's still soggy and you're worried they will rot you probably should be planting them somewhere else (although not too dry, they do like a drink).

It was the frost I wasn't sure of - I've not grown them before! Thank you; I'll do them tomorrow!

Everyone at my allotments has started putting theirs in. My DM says traditionally you do it Easter weekend which is still a couple of weeks away (it moves around but not sure it's ever this early in the year). I'm hoping to do mine at the weekend but my plot is new and needs a bit more preparation.
