I need, well want a greenhouse

Just that really, I want something small 6 x 4 or 6 x 6. Have always been a keen gardener, my Dad grew everything we ate when we were little and I helped a lot and it carried on from there!

Anyway, can you recommend me a greenhouse - I am toying with the idea of getting our carpenter to build me one in wood but not sure I want the expense (although will be much cheaper than buying one in wood).

Otherwise I would probably go for a Halls type thing because I don't know much about greenhouses.

Then I need to decide where to put it - big garden - South facing is mainly gravel and drive/parking with a big flower bed. North obv no good, east is very large but essentially at the front and we are in a conservation area so probably wouldn't get away with that. West is nice - has a big conservatory which opens out onto a fair sized lawn but with a tall hazel hedge and a big beech tree. Wouldn't want to spoil my view from the house too much, favourite spot for it is currently at the top end of the gravel with a big hedge within 2 feet to the West of it and same hedge 25 feet to the South.

Would that work temperature wise? I am clueless and could ask my Dad but he will have a v strong opinion and if I don't like what he says I will never hear the end of it!

I think the reason I haven't had one before here, apart from the fact that we were hoping to move this year which didn't happen, is that I can't decide where to put it. I really want to extend my growing season though and now we plan to stay in this house for three years would like to do it this Autumn to get the most from it.

Wow, epic post.

The simplest value for money and effective greenhouse I found is a palram one, their polycarbonate is said to be very effective and safer than glass.

Of course the ideal is Gabriel Ash for a wooden greenhouse but the difference i price is vast and being wood it will need more maintenance

This made me chuckle! I have a greenhouse I don't want. Unfortunately, it has been here for many years and I'm not sure it would dismantle without breaking the glass, which is a real shame as it was once loved and cared for.

I wouldn't want a palram type one - want something nicer than that to look at. My garden which is very traditional - old brick walls, hedges, lawn with cottage garden plants and long established perennials.

I think I could probably have a wooden one made (a bit like the link) for about £1200 which is the max I would spend. I don't mind the maintenance at all just wondered if there were any other decent greenhouses out there other than Halls - 6 x 4 or 6 x 6 probably no more than £700 for aluminium as beyond that I would probably have a wooden one made.

Any views on best place to locate it so that it isn't too hot?
