This is for my mum as shes come to a standstill with this.

So far shes made Sloe Gin, Pickled shallots, jam, something else pickled (can't quite remember )
but shes looking for other ideas.
They have alot of different things on the allotment so she wouldn't restricted and it seems such a shame for her to stop as she has got so much out of it.

I ahve to go now but if anyone could leave some suggestions they will be appreciated!
TIA.

allotment soup - self explanatory, but I always make a huge vat of spou out of virtually everything i have surplus from and freeze it. (if not a vegetarian, bung in a hambone for extra flavour)

I have loadsa recipes for chutneys, etc, tomato and chili 'jam' is stunning with cold meats for example.

When I have a glut, I go on the bbc website. www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes. you can type in the ingredient and get lots of recipes.
Last year I had an excess of pumpkins so made a lovely spicy pumpkin soup and pumpkin bread. This year I have lots of courgettes so made courgette loaf (similar to carrot cake)

Shes not bothered about selling tbh. Which is a shame as its good stuff and the produce thats come off is briliant.

not ignoring you YF - just manic at work and going away at weekend. Will sort some recipes out after the weekend - assuming her produce hasn't all disappeared by then

I put my surplus [along with my eggs] ina box outside the house. People leave their money in the honesty box. Have been doing this for 12 months with no probs whatsoever. Its lovely sometimes to hear people outside complimenting my [or the hens]produce.

YF, I know you have other things on your mind right now...(many congrats by the way!)

but on the off-chance you decide to visit mumsnet at 3am, between feeds...

Tomato and chilli jam - ace with cold meats or with cheese in butties.

Ingredients
500g very ripe tomatoes
4 garlic cloves, peeled
4 red chillies
2 tsp finely chopped fresh ginger root
30ml Fish Sauce
300g golden caster sugar
100ml red wine vinegar

Method

  1. Dice half the quantity of tomatoes.
  2. Blend the whole tomatoes in a food processor along with the garlic, chillies, ginger and fish sauce until the mixture reaches a pureé consistency.
  3. Pour the mixture into a deep heavy-based pan together with the sugar and vinegar. Bring to the boil and slowly stir.
  4. Once the mixture has reached boiling point, reduce to a simmer and add the remaining diced tomatoes.
  5. Skim off any scum that forms with a metal spoon and cook for 30 -40 minutes, stirring from time to time to prevent sticking.
  6. Pour the mixture into a warmed sterilised jar. Seal while still warm and label the jars when cold. Alternatively pour on a glass serving dish and allow to cool before serving.

    Popeye soup!

Lots of fresh spinach (can be perpetual spinach/beet)
    1 onion,
    1 small potato
    Veg stock cube
    Pepper

    1: Chop spinach roughly
    2: Dice potato
    3: Slice onion.
4: Gently soften onion and potato in better.
5: Add spinach. Add pepper, stock cube, 1/2 pint water, tiny pinch sugar.
6: Simmer til potato is cooked (20 mins) Liquidise and you get a beautiful, velvety soup, great to freeze. Serve with dollop of cream...

Have loads more, if you tell me what veg/fruit she needs to use up Get her to fill your freezer up for you
