Looks like white buddleia to me.

Are you sure it's the same thing? Because the picture has a humming bird on it

the flowers are buddleia-like, but i'm not sure it is a buddleia. the rest of the plant isn't a bush as such, just a stem with leaves coming off. and the flowers are a lilac sort of colour.

it is big - probably 6 foot high. each flower stem is a different plant.

A type of Echium? Very fashionable this year at Chelsea .

There's a giant lobelia that looks a bit like that... but there wouldn't have been humming birds on it there!

I do know what it is but I've forgotten the name. Our neighbour has one in her garden. We are in Jersey and so I guess they are quite tender. I'll look it up and be back!

Like Crypes, I'd guess it's an echium: there's one on this page

yes - thanks. i think it is an Echium.

I know what you mean about the lobelia. my brother saw ones like that on Kilimanjaro

crocus doesn't sell it sad

i guess it's a specialist plant. architectural plants do sell them but not that particular type. oh well.

thanks for the help everyone.

talking rubbish - you can buy the seeds. i don't have much success with seeds...

Deffo echium. They grow like heck in Melbourne and have to be beaten back with a shitty stick. <Not a recognised horticultural term>

Is it white larkspur ? smile

echt, does there have to be shit on the stick? or will a normal stick do.

reminds me of this joke: what's brown and sticky?

a brown stick.

echt Thu 19-Sep-13 09:48:21

claude I think the shitty stick is a reference to bum-wiping devices of back in the day. The Romans used a sponge on a stick in their communal crappers, hence the expression, getting hold of the wrong end the stick.grin

snort

and thanks bumbez
