Rhubarb disaster.

Just bought a rhubarb plant from wilkinsons, but as I was transferring it to my grow back, alas, I snapped the little stem (about 7cm) off. Will it still grow? Should I chuck the stem, or will new roots sprout from it? So disappointed.

The roots should produce a load of stems if it is a healthy plant. If 'grow back' means grow bag then it may not have enough depth to grow proper roots. I am no expert though I have only grown rhubarb in soil.

Just re read your post OP. chuck or cook the stem, keep the roots.

Thanks, when it start sprouting again I shall put it in a pot. I may buy another plant as was only £2. Just very careless of me, yes, I meant grow bag. Have some asparagus in a grow bag and perhaps that is better suited. Nasty clay soil here so may need to pop rhubarb in a pot.
