Poppy seeds

Hi folks,
DH bought me a packet of RHS poppy seeds for my birthday last year (he bought me other things too - ha ha!) Anyway, there are absolutely no instructions as to WHEN to plant them so I wondered if there were any poppy experts here?! I don't live in the uk at the mo and only come back once a month so need to make sure I don't miss my window! Smile

I would wait a bit, till the soil starts to warm up a bit.
Poppies are hardy but nothing will germinate in this wet cold.

Chuck them onto finely raked ground in April/May.

Are they annual poppies or perennials? If annuals (which is more likely) then, yes, chuck them onto the earth later in the spring.

Spread them out well, and put them on poor earth - they don't like being treated well!

My mum had some seedlings, she nurtured, fed and watered them, and got a grand total of two flowers.

She gave me some, I fecked them into a crappy bit of the flowerbed, ignored them, and got a huge display which has self seeded for the last two years.

She's Envy !

May I just say, OTBWAWW, how much I love your MN name?

Fab, will wait a little while then. Thanks!
