6th form/college interviews

Hi all, my ds has been given an interview date and myself and dh decided which of us was going with him and which was picking up our dd. This evening I mentioned the time of it to ds and he said he was going to go with some friends from school as they've all been asked to go their for the same time (it was organised through current school). None of us have seen this place as the open day took place before we knew about it so we thought the interview would be a good chance to have a look. I didn't even contemplate not going to the interview, it didn't cross my mind for a second.

It's about 40mins away by bus and a walk, he's never been that way...I don't know why I just feel quite put out lol, how do these interviews normally go? Do parents not go?

No, parents don't go to interviews. You probably won't even be allowed inside the building.

I could've written that post. My ds went to view a college last night with his mates. I really wanted to go and check it out but he was adamant I wasn't to go. Anyway he's signed up for a course and has his interview date through.
I'm hoping this will be the making of him.

ElizaSchuyler really? Oh dear, well that's that then I guess. To be fair, I didn't go to college/6th form, just straight to work so I didn't go through this myself and had no idea!

puglife1 it's scary isn't it! I just want to make sure he's speaking up for himself as he's quite shy, I'd hate to think he signed up for something because he wasn't sure he could say no...too protective and I'll have to get over it!

You could contact the college independently & ask if it's possible to take a tour round seeing as you missed the open day.

But they won't be able to accommodate that on interview days I wouldn't have thought.

As far as I know, parents don't usually go. My FIL actually took dd to her sixth form college interview as public transport would have taken ages and it was during school hours, so made sense to minimise her time out. And he's going to take ds this month too, for the same reason. But he'll just sit I the car and wait.

My DS had an interview last week - the college required a parent to go (I think to ensure the DCs take it seriously), albeit all of the talking was with my DS.

I just went to the college open day with my DS. He went to the interview solo and then reported back when he got home.

If he's looking to go to 6th form he's got to be at least 15? 40 mins travel time is nothing for a 15 year old, and if that's where he ends up going it would be useful for him to learn how to get there and navigate on his own.
