btec marking

Sorry if this has been covered before but I'm confused about BTEC marking. DD doing level 3 subsidiary diploma in acting as one of her subjects. Her first module is a devising project but unfortunately she is in a group with people who really can't be bothered so is struggling to create anything good and the teacher has said their rehearsal progress is not good. Since progress in rehearsals is one of the things they are assessed on and they get their lowest mark allocated for their final module grade she is worried she will only get a merit a pass because of it. Does this make sense - ie a merit for rehearsal progress means no higher than a merit for the total module.

Quite possibly - if she fails to meet distinction criteria for her rehearsals then she can't get a distinction for that unit.

It's a while since I've marked BTEC but the criteria are written so that they can be applied individually to each student, rather than applied en masse to a group doing a project together. Assignment briefs should be written in a way that each student can achieve a distinction if their work is of the right quality. i.e. if a tutor can see that one student is trying hard but the rest are dicking about then the one who is working hard will be able to get higher marks than the rest.
