Single parents and open university

Does anyone know how it works if you want to do an open uni degree but you're a single parent on job seekers allowance?

Do the job centre allow you to study instead of getting a job or are you expected to still look for a job whilst studying part time?

You could phone the OU and ask them. I'm sure they've come across this before.
