I have to concur - the reputation of Oak House (and Owens Park) is not quite as good / bad (depending on what you want) as the reality.

reassuring to hear smile thanks

My DD lives in Oak House and was dreading it as she had heard all the party rumours. However she loves it now she's there and says it's not anywhere as noisy as she feared. Apparently it depends on the flatmates you end up with.

thanks Sleepysand , will defo try!

My DS1 (at Sheffield) is in the party block (Froggatt) of the party campus (Endcliffe) - and has bought earplugs already. He is no drybread but he wants to get a 1st, and the level of noise some nights is mad - he is about 50 yards from the bar. His g/f is in a quieter place and has the option of coming to the noise or leaving it. I know it is hard to sell that to a teenager, but try if you can. We just didn't realise what it was like.

Just got DS to apply for accommodation at Manchester, and they let him do so, even though he won't be firming until he has the results of the Jan modules.

MABS Mon 14-Jan-13 16:17:35

read my mind mumblechum! just what i was wondering too

It completely depends on the Uni. Some open early for firm and insurance offers but others dont. It varies a lot and you need to chek on the Uni websites.

Hope your DC's Uni's are accomodating. smile

mumblechum1 Mon 14-Jan-13 14:22:23

Thanks WW

Yes you can only apply once you have accepted the offers.

webwiz Mon 14-Jan-13 14:21:05

It will depend on the university. DD2's insurance choice was York and they don't accept applications for accommodation until after A level choices whereas some universities such as Nottingham started taking accommodation applications very early.

The information about when the applications open will usually be on the university website. I've just had a look on DD2's uni website and they start taking applications in April.

mumblechum1 Mon 14-Jan-13 14:14:40

Thank you Sleepy - can they only apply once they've accepted the offers? Cheers

Sleepysand Mon 14-Jan-13 13:53:54

PS most are open for applications now I think

Sleepysand Mon 14-Jan-13 13:53:26

Usually both, and the deadline date varies by uni but will be on the web page. Most start allocating around 20th August and for most as long as you apply by 1st Sept you will get some accommodation. It does go first come first served though.

mumblechum1 Mon 14-Jan-13 12:53:33

When are our DCs supposed to apply for accom, and do they apply for both their firm and insurance offers?

Thanking yooop
