Hi - I am set up as a limited company employing myself, so will be able to claim SMP when I go on maternity leave in Nov, and later do the 10 KIT days. Reading some of the posts above it seems I could also set up as a sole trader and do work through that channel in addition to the 10 days? If I have an easy baby of course...!

yep you can do as much freelance work as you like while getting SMP but only 10days if you recieve MA.

Thank you, that's really useful to know.

I'm pretty sure that you can receive SMP from your 'employment' and still do freelance work.

"If you do any work in a self-employed capacity during your MPP, then such work will not affect your SMP"

I THINK that (as for employment) you can have up to 10 'keeping in touch' days - which can be used to simply work smile A quick google shows up this: www.forparentsbyparents.com/index.html?pn=834

I wonder if anyone can help me at all, or point me in the right direction of where to get more information.

I work part time in an office, where I am employed. The rest of the week I freelance working for myself. I'm recieving statutory maternity pay from work when I leave to have my baby in October, but was just wondering what the rules were on freelancing at the same time, I have some possible freelance jobs coming in after Christmas that I'd really like to do. Does anyone know what the rules are surrounding this?

Thanks in advance for your help.
