Fostering

Fostering when DH & I share childcare

DH looks after our DC (1&4) 3.5 days a week and I look after them 1.5 day although DH is (very loosely) self-employed so can be around all week if there's no work or we've got something on. We'd like to foster & think we'd be ready once DS1 has settled into school but wondered whether our slightly usual working/childcare arrangement would be an issue. Can you have more than one main carer? Would he have to give us work altogether?

Others on here will know more, but I don't think it will matter as long as you can show that a foster carer is at home for a pre-school age child, and that suitable arrangements for care have been made for school-age children.
You can be both be registered as foster carers, certainly.

I think you'll find that there is a great willingness to take people on with all sorts of care arrangements. It's definitely worth taking further!

What age of children do you think you might foster? Generally SS want at least 4 years difference from any natural children. Often children in need of foster care come from difficult backgrounds with complex needs and most benefit from being the sole centre of attention. Sometimes SS insist on this eing the case.

My (natural) parents fostered several children - sometimes short term, some long term (10 yrs+) I think resent is probably too strong a word to describe how I feel about it, but I certainly wish they never had.

Please think about this very carefully.
