Does anyone have experience of fostering in Somerset?

Hi, we are just restarting our application process to become foster parents through la (it wasn't right for step son at that time). I have read through loads of threads on here and am becoming more and more concerned that support from sw, ss etc will not be forthcoming. We have had to fight for any bit of help for ss with ADHD, it's only been through sheer bloody mindness on our part that has got him through the education system??
I'm just really worried that we will find ourselves in this situation again but with a fc with poss more issues.
I suppose I'm after reassurance that there is a lot more help available for fc than ss!!
Does anyone have any knowledge / experience of the foster care system down here?
Any comments will be gratefully received??

Hi, I'm not in your area but I think it's safe to say all local authorities are under massive pressure to make budget cuts and that is affecting children's services and in turn the support you receive as a foster carer. I personally have a good working relationship with my SSW but she has so many other Carers to support she hasn't got the time to give me what I have needed in the past though she really does try. And as for children's social workers, from my experience once a child is placed with you, they know they are 'safe' so they actually hardly ever see them or put anything in place. If had to fight for support for my lo at the moment, but by the time she gets seen she will be due to go home and then won't he eligible for support from that service anymore! I think it'll be just as frustrating as what you've described already to be honest!
