Impact of older AC/FC on younger BC

Hi everyone,
I've popped over from the adoption groups. I wanted to ask if any of you have experience of bringing in an older child to an existing setup- either with your own younger birth child or a younger FC? We have a 3 yr old BC and have just been advised by our SW that we could potentially adopt an older AC- maybe aged 6-8ish. We were surprised by this as generally adoption advice is to only ever introduce a younger child, and the experienced adopters I've spoken to have been quite negative about the idea. Despite this we do feel quite drawn to it as an option as we know older children struggle to find adoptive families and we'd really like to give one a second chance. We would also find it reassuring to know that much more about an older child, even if they bring a lot of emotional baggage with them, as a young baby might look good on paper but actually have a lot of undiscovered developmental issues that really limit their lives. Our SW suggested that adding a child to a family out of birth order might be more usual in fostering. If any of you have relevant experience it would be great to hear it. Thanks!
