Headlice

As so many of you were so helpfull with my doggy question I'm hoping for some advice now re headlice. Although I'm not phased in the slightest with the problem of headlice, I wondered how you all approach the situation when a child first arrives at your house needing treatment. How do you go about the process of getting rid of the headlice asap without traumatising further a child that may already be upset over whats happening to them?

Hi There,

We just arrange for a bath and hair washing as our 'new routine' used the liquid and combed through. Normally they know what the drill is when they have them. Our FChild came to us saying i've lice!

there are so many lotions on the market now, it is not as disturbing as it used to be.

good luck
:)

Hi

As anj9012 says children usually know when they have headlice and are co-operative when you are trying to get rid of them.

If you have other children at home you will need to get rid of the lice ASAP.

Keep some headlice shampoo at home for "emergency" delousing. The child's HV will send you a prescription for headlice shampoo if you feel you can wait. Personally I keep headlice shampoo at hand. Most of the children I have had placed, directly from their birth families, have arrived with headlice. Some instances have beeen very severe and distressing for the child/ren.

Again, such helpful posters, thank you all.
I spose Im just thinking of the fun and games we had when ours were young and we needed to do or check their hair. All hell was let loose. I can see I've got so much to learn Blush
