Fostering

How long does the Process take?

Hi,

My husband and I are thinking of fostering with a private fostering agency ( not sure if we can mention names here?)

we have a 5 year old son who up until recently spent long periods of time in hospital. However his health has taken a turn for the better and if he can make it through the winter without needing to go into hospital then we would like to offer a home to a little one who needs it.

I have been in touch with the agency and explained the situation to them and they are still more than happy for us to apply.

I have a long history of working with children in residential settings and later as a children's rights worker. In addition to this the medical experience i have gained may also come in very useful in the event that we were asked to look after a child with medical needs.

Can anyone tell me roughly how long the process usually takes from start to finish?

Thanks

Sharon x

hi sharon, my approval was a long time ago but took about 6months, that was considered quick then.

Good luck, you and your family sound ideal for fostering.

Private agencies are averaging 6 months. They have independent sw that come weekly so it's all done quite quickly.
