Is getting married to someone in the RAF different from a civillian marriage?
Do you need advance permission? Are spouses involved with the RAF in any way? Are there restrictions regarding work etc.?
Will marrying a German citizen cause trouble? Would it be better to apply for naturalization before getting married?

Any experience/advice would be greatly appreciated!

not different at all, you get married in the normal way, according to the law of the country you're in. You don't need permission don't understand the german citizen questions, sorry.

I'm German and I'll have to admit to being a completely clueless civillian. Well,
I know how to behave around military personell of course but I've never actually thought about the legal side as far as marriage and having children are concerned. I know that sounds pretty ignorant but then I hadn't though we'd start on that subject that soon.
Are multicultural marriages a common thing in the British Forces?

Yes they are, I know a few German ladies who are married to British Forces personnel, you will probably have to fill in a security vetting form if you want access to facilities on camp, but that's standard practice, otherwise it's exactly the same as any other marriage.

I think multicultural marriages are pretty common, especially after postings to Germany. I don't think any issues arise from marriage to a national of a NATO/EU member state.

In the Army, one would normally write to the CO requesting permission to marry, but this is quaint old tradition rather than legally required formality (as permission cannot be withheld). I don't know if even this residual bit of etiquette is usual in the RAF, but that would be for DP, not you, anyhow.

I think the children of two EU nationals can be citizens of either (or both) member state.

As a serving member of the armed forces it is customary to request permmission to marry from your CO but not many people do it anymore. Normal format is a formal letter. Never known permission to be withheld.

My DH is in the French Navy, I'm British. Not caused any problems, just a bit of extra paperwork and vetting.

Dual nationality depends on the states in question. Britain places no restriction - as long as you have a British parent born in Britain then regardless of where you're born and whether you tell anyone or not you can claim British nationality - but I believe Germany requires you to fulfill certain obligations.
