Going to a top table soon. The dress code says messdress luonge suits or kilts for men. mess dress or equivalent to mens dress code for women.

So DH is wearing Mess dress. please assure me I don't need a ballgown. i have 2 but hate wearing them. Will I get awayw ith a mid calf length dress, or even a maxi dress (but being tall it's not quite maxi)

i think mid calf will be fine as long as you look like youv made a lot of effort for the occasion

As far as I am aware if it is mess dress then it is full length gowns and your DH could be fined for you not wearing the correct dress. Depends how strict they are but I would get your DH to check with the PMC

yy usually sgt's mess more formal than off's for raf. mess dress is usually equiv to black tie though, so they've cocked that up royally, no wonder you can't tell. usually mess dress/ black ties is long formal dress for women, lounge suits is less formal, more cocktail dress/ tea dress if it's that sort of mess.

mess dress and lounge suit makes nay sense. lounge suit is no. 1s equiv usually, for day wear. mess dress or black tie for night. tsk.

sgt's mess a law unto themselves though (maybe they assume no-one has black tie, so have said suits instead?) check with cmc anyway.
