Am about to make my 2nd Xmas cake as my 1st one was rubbish. Bought a new tin of black treacle but I only need a little.

What else can I do with it?

Make Parkin or Treacle Toffee.

When I do Nigella's ham in coke (I know, but it does taste delicious), the glaze requires black treacle. Not that it will use up the rest of your tin, mind you. The treacle does seem to last for ages, though - keep it for next Christmas?

Try here

I love to eat it straight out of the tin though

i have a good dinner recipe you could use it in:

Green Bean DIsh

1 onion-chopped
crushed garlic clove

1 tbsp treacle
9 oz. green beans
3 tbsp corn flour

brown beef with onion and garlic. drain. add 1 1/2 cup water, soy sauce, treacle and green beans. heat until boiling, simmer 10 minutes. separately mix corn flour and 1/4 cup cold water together. add to cooking green bean dish. bring to boil and simmer for 5 minutes. serve over white rice.

I used to like it on bread and butter when I was a kid.

Lots of replies - thank!

Gingerbread a poss. Xmas bazaar coming up at school and I promised to make something.

Treacle toffee - I would be only one eating it!

Nigella's ham - sounds fab but can't get ham here.

Green Bean dish - sounds nice - will give it a try.

curlywurly - thanks - will have a look on there.

Not sure I fancy it on bread and butter - although I used to like sugar on bread and butter when I was a kid!

I use it in my sticky toffee pudding sauce (from James Martin)

Nothing, Christmas cake is fine without it. Christmas pudding is nicer with prunes for dark richness.

It just rusts away making your cupboard sticky.

I would make Parkin, but DDs would moan.

Boston baked beans, the ultimate winter comfort food! There is a recipe here but it is a great one for adapting to your own tastes. I use tomato purée and Worcestershire sauce in mine and serve with corn on the cob.

I don't have a link but brown soda bread with a bit of brown sugar & about 100ml of black treacle is gorgeous . Eat with just butter & a cup of tea. Looks exactly like chocolate cake!

Eat it with a spoon from the tin, like Malt Extract (which I have such a craving for this evening)

I'd probably make gingerbread or sticky ginger pudding. Or beg dh to make my all time favourite breakfast buttermilk ginger pancakes. Which is totally and utterly yummy :)
