Family buffet...help!

Next weekend my dad, step mum and their 2 little ones (7 and 5) are coming to visit so I thought I would put on a little bit of a spread.

I don't want to just have the usual sandwiches/veg/crisps but I also don't want to go over the top.

Are there any quick things I can make that are relatively easy (and cheap), but are a bit nicer than the norm? And will also be suitable for the LOs as well!

Get a pork shoulder. Approx 2 hours per kilogram at 140 degrees / Gas mark 2. Should be lovely!

Oh the pulled pork is a great idea! I can also pop to M&S to get some fancy brioche rolls!

AND it's a good opportunity for me to use the slow cooker I've had for ages and haven't used yet...any good tried and tested slow cooker recipes?

add to slow cooker 250ml chicken stock(oxo),onion, pork shoulder low 8-10hrs. Remove everything, remove skin and return meat to slow cooker.Shred and add some meat juices to keep moist.

lay out crisps, tortia chips, reggie reggie sauce, apple sauce, gravy, coleslaw, stuffing, salad let people make their pulled pork rolls how they like =)

Pulled pork is lovely from the slow cooker. I have adapted a recipe from all recipes .com. I don't think the detail is that important, my kids and visitors have both liked it and it is super low hassle.

I've got another question about the pulled pork...the timings of doing it mean that I'd have to get up about 4am to stick it on...can I do it tomorrow into tomorrow evening and then reheat it in the oven when it's time on Saturday? Or will it be dry?

Getting up at 5am to put the pork on was a silly idea...think I'm up for the day now...

Although this is probably good practise for our baby due in May!
