I have no shame and buy pre-peeled ones. Life's too short to peel tatties grin

If you are using a traditional masher you should peel (unless you don't mind bits) but if you have a potato ricer you don't have to and the skin gets left behind in the ricer.

"but if you have a potato ricer you don't have to and the skin gets left behind in the ricer."

WHAT?

SMH. The things my mother didn't tell me.

I'll be giving this a try! Does it work on sweet potatoes I wonder?

I don't understand the question?
Mash potato comes in a packet, just add water.

If they aren't peeled and you leave the peel on/in when serving aren't they just called smashed potatoes?

That's what we call them anyway if they aren't peeled.

Unless they're very old and the skin is a bit tough then I don't bother to peel them...but then I'm weird and like my mash with bits ingrin

I don't buy potatoes since the invention of frozen mashed potato 👍🏼

I always peel my Maris pipers for mashing.

I do sometimes have buttery crushed New potatoes which I leave the skin on.

Thanks for the replies .. but with the ricer u have to put in microwave first to soften so they rice or par boil suppose same amount of effort trying to find some ways to cut prep time !! X

I know it may sound gross but I batch prep mash and freeze it - as long as you make it quite watery it freezes up and defrosts fine in the microwave and tastes good. I do put cream and butter in it though.

I make a humongous amount though so it's worth it.

Whip with a wooden spoon when they are ready makes them light and fluffy
