I've eaten halloumi when out but never cooked with it before. Bought some in Lidls several months ago on one of their Greek weeks (hallouni with chilli)... and it's sat at the back of the fridge since then. Had a bbf date of end of August '16. Decided to do some roast veg and cous cous for supper tonight and shallow fry the halloumi to have with it. It stank when cooking. Is it supposed to??
It was in brine and smelt strongly when out of the packet. Looked fine though. I sliced it up and put it in the frying pan and it smelt like a strong blue cheese when cooking. Once cooked it smelt fine and it tastes fine - mild, salty, cheesy! But I've only had a small taste as I'm not sure it 's supposed to smell like that on opening / cooking. Can you help so I know whether to eat the rest of it or not!!!
