What can i put in my slow cooker with my pork belly?

OK, I have a 0.681 kg pork belly joint that needs to be cooked today for tea. I was going to just sling it in the oven later.

However, something has now come up which means I will be out of home all afternoon. I have a slow cooker so could sling it in there but every recipe I have googled has suggested things I don't have in my cupboard (gin, sherry, a variety of spices...)

So, is there anything that I have that I could put in the slow cooker with it? And how much? I have some apple juice, I have some oranges I can juice or I have stock.

All ideas gratefully appreciated!

I just add about an inch of water to the bottom and leave it to cook. I've heard of similar being done with apple juice too.

Simples!!

Thanks Olivia. So, do I score the skin (and do I do strips or diagonals?)

And ... if I put it on low, how long for? Or is it a case of the longer the better? (It's for dh's tea tonight)

(Would apple juice not taste better?)

Sorry, only just come back to this. I never score it. And the lower and longer the better, 6hrs on high should be ok. You can cut the fat off later and bake in the oven to make crackling.

I can never tell the difference if I use juice or water to be honest.

Fab, thanks! I scored as much as my not very sharp knife would allow and used a water/apple juice mix (didn't have much apple juice).

It won't boil dry will it (irrational worrier!!)

Not in a slow cooker with a lid! Enjoy!

I also use tinned pulses or lentils, onion and tinned tomato underneath which creates a veggie casserole as a side dish.
