Bread making machine help

I bought a bread making machine, bit don't like the bread!

The White bread I'd okay, but the wholemeal bread is too, heavy and difficult to,digest. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've tried mixing wholemeal, and white flour, but this bread is heavy as well.

Any help,would be appreciated. Thanks.

What recipe are you using? Are you using the correct amount of salt?

It's hard to get proper wholemeal right - a lot of commercial wholemeal is made with lots of added gluten. We've got used to it being a lot more airy than it should be.

A good compromise is to use brown flour. Not terribly easy to get, but Sainsburys do a lovely one which works really well in breadmakers. Their bread flours in general are better than a lot of brand names in breadmakers, if it comes to that! I find that it makes up OK on the white program in my panasonic, too - I just add a little extra water.

What bread maker do you have, btw?

The recipe you're using would be helpful, too. I find I get better results with butter or sunflower oil. Rapeseed oil seems to inhibit the yeast and doesn't give a good texture.
