What do you give your toddler for breakfast?

Just out of curiosity.

DD is 17months - she usually has 1/1.5 weetabix with milk for her breakfast, occasionally ready brek or porridge, and a bit of my toast when she was finished.

I started to give her a slice of toast in morning on the days I was working when we were short on time - maybe once or twice a week.

She now, in the last couple days, won't eat her weetabix but shouts for toast. She has butter and marmite on it.

I'm aware that it's not exactly the healthiest start to the day - so just wondering what everyone else gives their DC at a similar age?

She otherwise has a healthy diet and eats well, she's definitely a carb lover but she eats plenty fruit/veg/meat etc too.

Thanks.

Confused - what's the problem it toast? We have brown bread toast every day with our toddler and I was under the impression that it's a better breakfast than sugar laden cereals?

I just had the impression that toast maybe wasn't as nutritional? She doesn't get cereal with high sugar in them. I find toast maybe bungs her up a bit too.

Is wholemeal she gets, so maybe not too bad

Toast and butter, occasionally some cereal hoops or weetabix, but mostly toast. It's the only time she'll eat bread so I'm not too worried about it.

She's asked for pasta a couple of times too!

Brown or whole meal toast with peanut butter is a staple here. Otherwise porridge, fruit, yoghurt

Wholemeal toast with butter/ marmite/ Nutella. Porridge. Boiled eggs. Rice crispies. Cheese on toast.

Brie, crackers and sliced apple Hmm

Just depends what she asks for really.

Our two can have a choice of toast, cereal, croissants, porridge or we sometimes make pancakes. As for what they put on them - it can be lots of things really - jam, syrup, marmalade, cheese, fruit or chocolate spread

If either of us have our breakfast at the same time they normally have a bit of that too.

The advice is generally to not give much wholemeal food to under 5s, it fills then up too much. Or so I've been led to believe.

A banana every day with one of the following : porridge, hot cross bun, sheddies or jammy toast (on a Saturday with daddy!)

My two-year-old DS likes a scrambled egg and about a third of a tin of Heinz Pork sausages and beans.
On a Saturday he has a toasted cinnamon and raisin bagel with butter as a treat :)

Always fruit early then an hour or so later Porridge or weetabix with fruit puree. Occasionally ready brek.

But increasingly toast. I put ham and cheese on it with the tenuous logic that it's adding protein and calcium.

Weetabix with banana in here. Or porridge. Or buttered fruit toast. Tbh I thought weetabix would bung them up more than toast!

Porridge here - we're building up 3yo DD's tolerance to milk after having to avoid it for she's due to CMPA. She currently has it 50/50 coconut milk and cow's milk. I normally bung in a small handful of frozen raspberries too , which help cool it down a bit. She lives for porridge - utterly crazy about it.

Oddly though, when DP makes it, she demands he puts honey on it and one day angrily told him off because he's put the 'wrong' honey on it (think we'd switched brands or something) Confused

Nice to hear plenty other people give toast for breakfast too. By sure why j thought it wouldn't be 'good' enough. Reading too much on MN probably Grin.

If DD had her way she's have pasta and cheese for every meal

I had marmite on toast everyday for breakfast when I was little, I've always been very healthy and happyGrin

For us it's been a calcium intake issue, plus reacts to wheat-based stuff (although has gluten free sandwiches often for lunch) - just trying to avoid too many meals with bread!

Wholemeal toast with Marmite and a boiled egg. Small glass of freshly-squeezed orange juice.

Porridge with fruit is the favourite here. Some times "circle" cereals or Rice Crispies. Often at the weekends a poached egg on toast. In the summer Greek yogurt and fruit and half a bagel.
Once in a blue moon and birthdays coco pops but it goes massively against the grain with me!!

Ds is a breakfast monster and has 4 courses Hmm I've made a rod for my own back by making a weekend 'breakfast sundae' treat with strawberries, yoghurt, blueberries and muesli - the mini dictators now asking for it every day. Other than that it can be toast, weetabix, porridge, pancakes, fruit, yoghurt, cheese cubes, waffles, shreddies, granola....

My 14 month old gets porridge or weetabix (1.5) with milk then a banana most mornings. At the weekend sometimes she'll have eggs or toast with peanut butter/jam. Always has a banana though. She can't cram it in her mouth fast enough Hmm

I have heard numerous times not to give brown bread or wholemeal food to toddlers they are better off with white! Plus don't stress about silly things like toast, there's nothing wrong with toast at all it's food and if they eat it then all good! People worry far too much about what's right and wrong and people judge when we give our kids choc spread or white bread or other so called rubbish and it really really annoys me! As long as they are eating, happy, and healthy then ur doin a great job!

21mo DD has a banana and a waffle for breakfast everyday. Normally the first words she says after waking up (after muuuuuuum).
I also make her a slice of toast when I'm having mine but it's probably 50/50 whether she even looks at it.
