Alternative to Sunday Lunch, getting fed up with it every week

Any ideas? We are totally stuck in a rut and have a roast Sunday lunch every single week. I usually cook a chicken, some pork loin steaks plus all fresh veg, roasties etc. DH and I love it and I cook enough so we have a second dinner on Monday, plus I make a chicken curry from the leftover meat and soup for work from the carcass so our ingredients go a long way.

However, the kids aren't fussed on it, they hate Sunday's now because of the food, I'm a bit sick of all the cooking and washing up it creates. Does anyone have some alternative ideas for a nice lunch? (I don't want to stick a pizza in the oven) something easy to cook but is healthy and fresh ingredients? Possibly something that could be stretched out a day or two (like the Sunday roast is)

Thanks

You could cheat with Auntie Bessie's potatoes and yorkshires etc but it isn't as nice
Irish Stew is good as meat doesn't need browning first.

I do a roast in the evening. Used to love it by now the kids don't really like it, it seems like stacks of work a few there's endless clearing up (or that's what it feels like!!). We get chicken all the time too and while I like chicken it's got really boring.

Sometimes I just give up and get an M&S lasagne - might do that today actually!!

Slow cooker recipes? Stews, curry, filling for a pie? Less work but will stretch to 2 days (day 2 with baked potatoes).

We're having steak and ale pie with mash, veg and gravy. We often have sausage and mash, toad in the hole and all sorts of stews for Sunday lunch. Jamie Oliver has a really nice shin of beef stew which works well as a pasta sauce the next day.

I do a roast maybe once every three weeks, otherwise it just gets a bit much.

Sometimes I do a quick roast eg, do pan-fried chicken breasts with the roast veg. Otherwise, we just have a normal meal.

Well you could vary the meat in the roast?
Leg of lamb cooked in paper parcel with coriander and garlic, served with roasted med veg and new potatoes ands Greek salad
Lasagne (Cook extra meat to freeze for an easy bolganaise later in the week)
roast or slow cookered ham, with boiled spuds, veg and onion sauce, left over ham and be used for carbonara or potato and ham cheesy bake, or ham egg an chips.
Chicken fajitas or chilli tacos
Nice homemade pie
Fish pie
Cottage pie

Sunday is the only day we all get to sit down and eat dinner as a family due to working hours during the week, so I don't like to do anything too complicated and try and do something that I know the toddler will eat to make it stress-free. Pasta bake usually goes down well, or things like fajitas or tacos. Homemade pie sometimes too, or something like beef stew done in the slow cooker.

Thanks for all your ideas, pies are a great idea as they can be eaten again the next day, roasted veg is good too as I can cook them all in the same tin. I'm so entrenched in my mothers way of cooking ten different veg from scratch and having loads of saucepans to wash, I need ti break out of it. I spend Sunday mornings cooking and all afternoon clearing up then laying on the sofa as I feel like I've done a days work!

We've kind of grown out of it now, but when the dc were younger they used to take it in turns to decide what we all ate for Sunday lunch (or evening meal in our case) and I would cook it. The rules were it couldnt be fast food so no pizza. It was lovely as the dc used to get really invested in it, choosing and sampling, and I was cooking things from scratch I'd never have thought of (who knew Singapore noodles had so many ingredients and takes so long to cook).

Dc are teens now so doesn't happen as they cab so much now with the choosing, and are often out, but it was a lovely period of time.

We're having lasagne today. Some weeks we have steak pie, chicken and haggis wrapped in pastry, toad in the hole, etc. We only have a roast every 3/4 weeks

Toad in the hole is a firm favourite for Sunday here.

Things like stew with roast potatoes or mash? Cottage pie with lots of veg served with it? Something you can put on the table for everyone to help themselves to. In summer I often roast a chicken and serve it with roast onions and peppers and some good bread and in winter I'll do a veg-heavy dal and some flatbreads. That way I still have chicken for sandwiches in the week but its lighter than a roast dinner. And less washing up!

What about a roast ham (plenty of leftovers) which could be served with oven chips/baked potatoes and baked beans.

jobrum I also do roast chicken & peppers, etc with bread - makes a change from the full monty and more summery.
