Overnight oats

Anybody do overnight oats for breakfast? I keep hearing and reading good things about it, but I'm a little unconvinced. What do you add to it? I've read about chocolate brownie flavour, carrot cake flavour. Looking for ideas that are reasonably healthy (but tasty) and some gorgeously unhealthy ones!

I do them from time to time.
Yoghurt (Greek, plain or flavoured)
Fruit (fresh or frozen)
Oats
Almond milk
Chia seeds
Honey
I had to play around with the quantities to get the consistency right. I haven't tried the unhealthy ones and usually stick to various fruit flavours of the above.

I have a basic mix which I make in the yoghurt pot when it's down to its last couple of blobs.

Stir in about 20g oats. The red measuring cup that comes with mine is about 30g, so I do a generous half of that.

Add berries. I keep frozen mixed berries in the freezer, can toss in a handful of those and they'll defrost overnight. If I have fresh blueberries I'll use those, or strawberries or raspberries or a mix. If no berries are to hand, half a grated apple.

I'm trying to get more flaxseed/ hemp into my diet, so I'll sprinkle on a tablespoon of this.

For flavouring, some cinnamon. Also good for the metabolism.

Stir all together and leave overnight. In the morning, eat straight from the pot (no washing up!). Add a drizzle of honey or agave if it's not sweet enough, and/or a sprinkle of flaked almonds or other nuts.

I made a cherry bakewell one with a couple of drops of almond extract and frozen cherries (they sell them at our big tesco). It was lush!
Also tried one with cocoa stirred in and some sliced banana. That was as unhealthy as I got, couldn't face anything more rich first thing. Though I think I did always put a little maple syrup even in my fairly plain ones.

Mmm I might have to start doing them again. Why did I stop?!

They are my breakfast staple. I usually just do oats, almond milk, Greek yoghurt, apple & cinnamon. Occasionally oats, almond milk, Greek yoghurt, sliced banana, honey & peanut butter - yum!

Breakfast staple here too.

Oats, milk, sugar, linseeds and add raisins / chopped pecans or banana in the morning. It's basically sloppy comfort food.

I love the tropical one - it's just a cup of oats, a large spoonful of dessicated coconut, and some (a cup) of mango chopped up. Add roughly the same amount of milk (skimmed or whatever you want) as the oats (a cup or a little less). Stir it and leave it in the fridge overnight. Yum. Must buy more mango and do this again.

Half a cup (American measuring cup) of oats, 1 cup of milk (I use soya), sprinkle of Sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries. Overnight in the fridge then 2 mins in microwave, lovely hot porridge to keep you going for hours. Let it out with a bit more milk if it's too thick or you'll feel like a haggis when it's finished swelling up in your stomach and you'll never stop farting

Thanks for the ideas, think I'll give it a go. I particularly like the sound of the cherry bakewell and the mango and coconut one.

Will any old porridge oats do or are some better than others?

Actually I think I read somewhere that the coarser more expensive oats aren't actually as good for this as they really need cooking to soften up? Just soaking won't do it. But I may be wrong. Anyway I make them with bog standard oats.

I've never noticed any difference between brands of oats so I'd say buy cheap ones & spend the difference on extras like tasty dried fruit, seeds etc.

Rolled oats, not Oatmeal.

I use TTD rolled jumbo oats, half fill a Bonne Maman jam jar with them. Add two spoons of Greek plain yoghurt, half a mashed banana, and some blueberries and raspberries. Add a few glugs of milk and shake.

I'm never organised enough to do them overnight. I do them when I make packed lunches in the morning at 7.45am and then eat at 10ish at work (I work from home). A couple of hours in the fridge is fine.
