Vegetarian sausages

So, I've given up all processed meat. Tonight we had sausage & mash for dinner. I had Linda McCartney sausages & they were bland, tasteless & had a horrible texture. I looked at the quorn & cauldron ones & they both looked grim. Any recommendations?

I don't, but do you know that veggie sausages are very processed too, if it's the processed you are bothered about.
A decent sausage will be minced meat, some filler which isn't necessarily crap, plus seasonings, no nasties.

Sainsburys do some called something like 'Bubble and squeak sausages.' They make no attempt at all to be like meat. I think they are really nice, especially if cooked for longer than it says on the packet so they go really crunchy.

Tesco own frozen Lincolnshire ones are nice, the cauldron lincs or Cumberland ones are also nice, even been enjoyed by non veggies

Aw, I like Linda ones.

There's two types of Cauldron ones, one I really like and one I'm not so keen on.

Tbh though if you still eat meat I would go for non-fake meat ones. Like the bubble n squeak ones mentioned above. Or some good old Glamorgans. You're just not going to get a veggie sausage that comes close to a good meat sausage

I like Sainsburys frozen Cumberland style veggie sausages. I prefer them to actual sausages!

Standard quorn ones are nothing special however the quorn best of Britain ones are seriously good! They do a wild garlic flavoured one too which is delish

I like the quorn and cauldren ones. Tival make nice vegetarian hot dog sausages (and veggie shnitzels). I like Linda McCartney pies but the sausages have weird texture and are very oily.

Oh yes, Glamorgan sausages are lovely, but aren't pretending to be meat.
I'm aware my previous post might have made me sound like a twat, I didn't mean to, nor do I have a problem with processed food, just saying that pretend meat generally is quite processed so it's not really a good swap.

Cauldron are really nice
Quorn are really meh. Ok on a bun at a barbecue with loads of sauce but grim as the main part of the meal.
Linda McCartney are also pretty meh. She does some rosemary and something ones and some red onion which are better.
Leek and cheese ones are nicer, but more like vegetables in a sausage shape rather than sausagey in texture

Cauldron Lincolnshire are the only vegi sausages worth bothering with in my opinion.
The 'bubble and squeak' ones are just over salted mushed up vegis.

Thanks, I don't like the texture of real sausages & the bits of gristle in them. I probably would be better off with a bubble & squeak type, rather than something that tries to mimic real sausage.

I was vegetarian until I hit my teens, then only ate chicken for years. I gradually started to eat other meats, now all of a sudden I hate sausage, any form of mince & any chewy meat. I guess I could lose the meat all together & just have mash, veg & gravy.

I second the Sainsburys sausages. To be honest if you are going to compare veggie sausages to the real thing then unfortunately you're never going to find one to your liking. Same for bacon. Real sausages are best but i'm vegetarian and have got over the initial dislike to veggie sausages now.

The Cauldron Lincolnshire definitely. Have tried quite a few and these are by far the best.

The Cauldron Lincolnshire sausages are lovely - they taste and look far nicer when cooked than they do raw!

Also, if you shop in Sainsburys, I quite like the Tivall vegetarian frankfurter-style sausages from the freezer section (apologies, I'm not sure if they are stocked elsewhere). I am not a veggie but I prefer them to meat frankfurters in terms of flavour/texture/nutrition. They have a smoked flavour so make a pretty authentic change for hotdogs or quick pasta dishes.

Agreed. Tesco's own Lincolnshire ones - done in the oven they come out with the thick baked skins/nice texture - with the Lincolnshire spicing. Make lovely Toad in the Hole as well with veggie onion gravy!

I also really like the Tesco Mediterranean ones - again, best done in the oven rather than fried or grilled - with roasted vegetables and sweet potato wedges - bloody lovely.

I'm a lifelong veggie and I've tried them all. Tesco's own are my favourites.

Tivali (sp?) Holland & Barrett, and used to be able to get them from Tesco. Like hot dog sausage, but veggie :)

Cauldron are the best. Quorn are fine for breakfast or in food, like casserole or toad-in-the-hole. Linda Mc C are very high in salt and greasy, but I like their veggie sausage rolls.

I like the 'best of British' (or whatever they're called) by quorn, especially the garlic flavoured ones.

If you can get to a health food shop or use ocado, Frys vegetarian sausages are really nice.

I think the Tesco ones are made by same people as cauldron lincs ones, they are pretty much identical (but lots cheaper!)

Sainsbo's and Quorn both do pretty decent veggie hotdog sausages. I prefer the hotdog ones to the veggie version of normal sausages - they make a v nice sausage casserole and are good with pasta too, as well as just as hotdogs.

I like the Sainsburys veggie hotdogs, but have never thought of eating them with anything else, so cheers for the tip, Remus.
