Hi I have 3 bottles of Sloe Gin brewing and was told to re-use the sloes to make Sloe Sherry or even Slider (sloes in cider) has anyone made either of these drinks and was they easy to do and did it taste nice? Thank you Wine Wine Wine

How can you reuse the sloes? They need to stay in the bottle until you want to drink it! In fact I have always kept mine in whilst we are drinking it, unless I totally decant it for a dinner party with cheese. Or do you mean after you have used the bottle?

I made sloe sherry with 'secondhand' sloes, and ignored the advice to use the best sherry possible. It was ok but I wasn't mad keen, found it very dry, maybe I should have added more sugar. If you like cider might be worth trying that. It's only going to cost you a bottle of something.

On a slightly different tack I often make blackcurrant gin. And then used the blackcurrant said to make an incredibly boozy good clafoutis..

Thanks for the replies, Swifey when I made it last year I sieved the sloes after about 6 weeks, I didn't know they were meant to stay in but it was delicious anyway! Crosbybeach I'm not mad on Sherry either but wanted to experiment with the second hand sloes, Blackcurrant Gin sounds very nice too Grin i think I'll buy a bottle of Cider and have a shot at Slider Wink

I make sloe cider with the second hand sloes. My top tip would be to drink it on the friday of a weekend with a bank holiday monday. You are most welcome...

Pit the sloes and put them in your Christmas pudding. I make damson gin and do this, it replaces more than half of the usual raisins and it's LUSH.

I planted some blackthorns about 7 years ago so get them from there now, otherwise it's common land really, similar to where you'd find blackberries.

I accidentally stumbled across them whilst out running MayhemandMadness I wasn't 100% sure so grabbed a handful including the leaves and googled it when I got home. Apparently there's not many sloe bushes up north.
