Inspiration sought for a lunch/dinner for 7 - 4 adults & 3 older children. No cheese, mushrooms or shellfish.

I enjoy spending few hours in the kitchen in the morning or day before but am out of ideas.

Have previously made home made chicken pie, roast dinners, chicken basque (spanish rice type thing), beef en croute, Greek style lamb. They've done pasta w meatballs, lasagne, fajitas as well as roasts and bbq.

I don't think a fish pie would go down overly well & am not great at curries, well, DH always thinks they're better from a restaurant! Curry my best idea so far though. DH not wild for tagine, either the cous cous or the slight sweetness from apricots or dried fruit.

Any new ideas welcomed!

Thai curry? Stir fry?
Or just do your curry idea and tell your DH to stfu or buy a take away for everyone ;)

Nothing wrong with a good roast. Do that again?
How about p!son old sausage and mash, with great quality sausages?
Or sreak and chips?

My go to meal is coq au vin though.

This is a recipe for a beautiful Portuguese dish called Feijoada - it's basically a Chorizo, Pork & Bean Stew - really full of flavour and hearty. It's also VERY easy to make! Bonus :)

What about a chilli? Standard beef, or turkey and sweet potato? Or a veggie chilli? Lots of lovely variations available, and you could serve with rice, guacamole, sour cream etc.

Or tapas- honeyed chorizo, tortilla, croquettes, patatas bravas etc?

Thanks very much indeed for the ideas.

I probably wasn't very clear but I'm looking for something a bit more special than 'everyday' food like chilli and sausage & mash & stir fry (which would be a nightmare of last minute work for 7).

Really like the breaded Harissa cod and have saved the recipe to try when we don't have guests, but lacks the luxury touch I'm hoping for.

Salmon en croute would go down well. I love Delia's salmon Coulibiac but won't work with this group due to eggs and mushrooms.

Chorizo, pork and beans sounds about right & i've bookmarked that too, but I'm still waiting for a recipe that yells at me 'make me'!

Sorry - me again! I'm on a roll :) How about a selection of curries? Here are a couple of easy ones...

You could also do a chicken and/or beef or lamb one and then serve with rice, naan and maybe do poppadoms and a pickle/chutney selection

Nigella's miring glazed salmon recipe is very nice, incredibly easy and popular with kids. It looks glamorous and you can top it with shredded spring onion and sushi ginger out of a jar. You will look like a goddess.

This is the recipe.
