Help - I have lots of plums, and no inspiration!

I've got loads of almost-ripe plums on the tree in the garden. I have no idea what to do with them. All suggestions welcome!

Pack a clean big jar (such as a big kilner) top up with cheap vodka and put it in the dark. Shake it once a week and by Christmas you will have the most delicious plummy drink. Blackberries, strawbs, all soft fruit is great for this but nothing beats plums IMHO.

Yep, I've been using surplus fruit to make flavoured vodkas the last couple of years and they rock. They are also popular at parties. You have just reminded me that I need to give my latest experiment (blackcurrants) a shake.

I like plum pancakes, make a thick mix ( but no baking powder), add lots and lots of plums, cut in four or six, sugar and lots of cinnamon and fry little pancakes. Sprinkle with icing sugar.

Plum Tarte Tatin? Halve the plums, remove the stones and put a little bit of marzipan in each half, where the stone came from. Caramelize the butter and sugar with the half plums paid in the dish (cut side up) and then cover with pastry and bake. The marzipan goes really well with the plums.

Alternatively, plum jam is one of the easiest, with plenty of natural pectin in the fruit you are guaranteed a set.

Plum jam is very easy.
Stew them with cinnamon and freeze them - then add to porridge etc throughout the year.
Plum muffins
Plum flapjacks
Can you tell I have the same issue? Am following this thread.

I have a Victoria Plum tree from which I get kg and kg of fruit every year. Smile

In past years I have made plum jam, plum chutney, plum gin, plums in syrup, plum crumble, plum pie, plum compote, plum sauce (Nigella recipe). And I give away loads to our neighbour.

I'm just about to make raspberry jam from the garden - fortunately I've got about another month before having to deal with the plums Wink

Oh - I forgot about stoning them and freezing a few kilos until I get more inspiration. Usually gets made into plum crumble/pie when I do that - although I have been know to make a Christmas chutney with it.

BTW - Victoria plums don't have as much pectin as other plums, so it's still worth adding in a halved lemon and few plum kernels while the plums are stewing. I also shove in a couple of cinnamon sticks. Remember to fish them out before filling the jars.
