Is soreen malt loaf a healthy option?

DD age 2.5 starts at pre school shortly and has to take a packed lunch. This can include a hot dinner so I will provide this to heat up like her CM does. She is a hungry child and needs to eat well. I was also going to include a piece of fruit and a lunchbox sized malt loaf. They are very insistent on a healthy lunch (rightly so) with no cakes or biscuits but does malt loaf count as a cake?! She really likes it and as it's calorie dense and small it keeps her hunger locked up for much longer.

Its ok as long as you dont eat it too often.

Personal trainers seem to recommend it though

Actually the lunch box loaves contain 5.7grams of sugar and meet the government's nutritional standards for schools!

Malt loaf is a type of bread and not cake. The dried fruit provides most of the sugar. I make my own malt loaf in my bread machine and it is religious.

I assume it is quite healthy as my very health contious oh has 1/2 a loaf before the gym every day but... He lifts so high calorie is what he is looking for.
I have hypoglycaemia (and a lot less health contious) and eat a much smaller slice at tea time to get me through the gym before dinner.
I guess it is better than other cakey snacks.

Ha not an advert for shreddies but could be...glad to hear it meets government standards I'll shove one in the lunchbox and see if I get told off.... I love these little things, she eats one then I don't hear 'mummyyyy I'm hungry for at least 2 hours' !

Tell me about it. Yesterday my 3yo ate:

Three bowls of porridge
Almost a whole punnet of blueberries
An apple and peanut butter
Four portions of vegetable lasagne
A bowl of cherry tomatoes and cucumber
Two huge portions of fish pie and almost a whole head of broccoli
A satsuma

Where do they put it all? I love to eat but would literally be puking my guts out if I ate that much.

It's even nice if you toast it with cheese on the top.

It's not that bad ingredients wise but it is hideous for the teeth.

My DC have it at home only, and brush their teeth afterwards. It gets very stuck in teeth, which is deadly with all the sugar.
