you can add other things, ie, mushrooms cheese etc, but what you have got is fine.

Nothing other than some cheese to grate over the top if you fancy it. I add in all sorts of veg, but it can certainly be done with those ingredients. (You might need a little cornflour or flour and water to thicken the mince mixture though).

You can, but personally I would throw in some diced carrot / broccoli etc for hidden vegetables, and a stock cube and some herbs for flavour....

i always do grated carrot, a chopped onion, an small stick of celery if i have, a large dollop of tomato puree - if not - tomato ketchup, 2 tbsp of flour when browning the mince and half a pint of stock. I always attempt to chuck in something extra like a chopped courgette or peas or something to up the veg content.

Shepherd's pie is made with lamb mince and cottage with mince, or at least, so I've heard. No guarantees that that info is correct.
