Nothing other than some cheese to grate over the top if you fancy it. I add in all sorts of veg, but it can certainly be done with those ingredients. (You might need a little cornflour or flour and water to thicken the mince mixture though).

yes, of course you can.

well dont take my advice then Mandy

You eat your cottage pie without a cottage in it, see if I care

You can, but personally I would throw in some diced carrot / broccoli etc for hidden vegetables, and a stock cube and some herbs for flavour....

i always do grated carrot, a chopped onion, an small stick of celery if i have, a large dollop of tomato puree - if not - tomato ketchup, 2 tbsp of flour when browning the mince and half a pint of stock. I always attempt to chuck in something extra like a chopped courgette or peas or something to up the veg content.

Shepherd's pie is made with lamb mince and cottage with mince, or at least, so I've heard. No guarantees that that info is correct.

cottage - beef
shepherds - lamb

Aero beat me to it, but given her uncertainty at least I gave her credence - eh Aero?

Ah - yes indeed. Thank-you hmc. I will rest better tonight (after packing my suitcases for the half-term visit to NI to see the folks) for knowing for sure! (Gee- I'd better get off here, or we'll never get away tomorrow).
