Road trip snacks/picnic

On Xmas eve we're driving 8+ hours (yay!) to see the families.
I'm trying to think of food/snacks I can pack that aren't just junk, though junk is welcome, and that will hold up in a chilly bin for the duration.
We're in NZ so it's summer, I'm thinking maybe sausage rolls/bacon and egg pie, lots of fruit, what else? Drawing a blank!

I always include buttered hot cross buns (fruit buns) - seem to go down a treat. Have a good trip!
