Is the list of requirements for my dinner party on Friday. Sob.

I'm pregnant too, just to add to the above.

Any ideas?

Dairy-free I'm sort of ignoring as I know he does eat cheese and will have dairy products occasionally (he's coeliac).

I was thinking of doing a butternut squash and crumbled stilton salad to start and for dessert I was going to make a meringue and fill it with either fresh fruit or pears, hazelnut and chocolate sauce. I'll serve the cream separately so he can have some if he wants.

I'm really stuck on the main course though.

Oh and any alternative ideas for starters and desserts would be gratefully received!

Roast meat- lamb, chicken, beef? Make it a hotpot- a crueset pot with lid.
That way all vegs go in under the meat and cook in oven with the lid on. Easy peasy.

I cook chopped leeks and carrot, with chicken, lemon juice, fresh herbs, some olive oil and have potatoes arranged all round the chicken so they bake in the pot too. Takes two hours and no checking. If I do lamb I put puy lentils underneath the meat with veg and also a glass or two of red wine.

Watch out for gravies- no wheat in the sauces- also the chocolate sauce might have some wheat in. I serve the hotpot juices as gravy, it's the easiest dinner as its all there.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Thank you! Smile

Ooh I love the sound of the chicken dish!

Apparently his partner doesn't really like lamb either which is a pain as I'd had an idea of slow cooking shanks.

Chocolate sauce I'll make myself so not too concerned about that and yes, gravy is always a problem! He's really good but does moan if he doesn't get a decent gravy so your hot pot idea is a winner!

You can make gravy with cornflour instead of wheat. Otherwise what Venus said ;-D ^
Another alternative woud be to go spicy: curries and rice/salads/side dishes. Avoid Raita and use oil instead of ghee and it will all be dairy/wheat free.

BBC GoodFood link

I can personally recommend the falafel burgers (gorgeous and easy), plus the pumpkin and chickpea curry was WONDERFUL the next day (bit meh when fresh; also I used a butternut squash which had to be cooked forever until it went mushy).

I'm a brand new vegan so I quite like this thread Grin

mom I would love to go spicy...but the partner doesn't like spicy food either!
